Every spiritual blessing, Part 6

The Holy Spirit is our guarantee

19th February 2016

This is the last of our studies of Paul's list of spiritual blessings that have already given to every Christian, in Ephesians 1v3-14. Paul ends this list with:

Ephesians 1v13b-14
When you believed, you were marked in him [Christ] with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession - to the praise of his glory.

The moment you believed in the power of the blood of Jesus Christ to pay for your sins, so you could be redeemed from death and adopted as a child of God, you received the Holy Spirit. The third person of the Holy Trinity lives in you. How blessed does that make you feel?

And here's the last of the great spiritual blessings in Paul's list: The Holy Spirit is a deposit that guarantees our inheritance.

The Holy Spirit is a down payment from God, which assures you that you're saved and adopted into God's family, and that you'll always be saved and a member of God's family. The Holy Spirit is your guarantee.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5v22-23) - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control - growing in you, making you godly, making the child of God more and more like the Father, proves that God's power is at work in you.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12v7-11) like prophecy, healing and tongues show you that God's power is at work through you, enabling you to serve His kingdom.

The fellowship of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14) constantly reminding you of God's love, leading you and comforting you, shows you that God is for you.

As we read in verse 3, Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

May we never tire of giving thanks and praise to the God who did all this for us!
